You don’t really want to dive into something that assumes a lot of work and failure. Sounds like you are setting yourself up! There’s not much incentive for starting something, if it already seems like it will fail. The only way to create a new beginning is to do just that.
Maybe you have had failures in your own past. We all have. You are not alone. Most things work out well, but not everything does. How do you get past the thought of starting something new and it not being successful?
Taking a leap of faith is a good start
Believing in yourself can be difficult. We often define ourselves by how others perceive us based on past performances, identity and relationships. Maybe you started a small business before, and it failed. You may feel that “you’ve been there done that and it didn’t work.” Or, maybe you accepted a job and it wasn’t a good fit. Either way, it didn’t work out. It can leave you thinking it isn’t worth trying again.
Do we really know how others perceive us? Thinking that you have a responsibility to your image is your first mistake. Do right, and right will be done to you. Take it back to the basics. Treat others how you want to be treated. We all learned this early on. These are good rules to follow, but, do they always work out?
When I was in first grade I wandered into a group of people who were playing a game in the corner of the classroom. I was curious what they were doing. It looked interesting and more fun than what I was doing. The minute I walked over the teacher came too and scolded the group for not following instructions. I think I said “hey I wasn’t playing the game!” It didn’t matter. I was there. Guilty!
I was then labeled defiant. I was bad. I broke the rules. Us kids didn’t get to go outside that day. We were punished. After that, it changed my attitude. How did that happen? My intentions were all good. It didn’t work out the way I planned. Actually, I hadn’t planned on any of it at all!
It is difficult to always walk the straight and narrow path in life. Even if you don’t intend to, life can throw you off! It can happen In your job, relationships, family or anything. I’ll never forget that day in first grade. I was labeled at that moment. I had a choice to accept it and move on. Or, I could stand my ground and show that I, indeed, was not that person. It may have been fun for a second to be the bad kid. But hey, we are all human.
Regardless of what happens, you have to keep trying. Even when you have no idea what the results will be. The lesser of the evils, perhaps. However, if you find yourself in a place where you don’t want to be, there is only one choice. Get yourself out of there. Then, you can look back and think how you skated through that situation. Left it in the dust. Dodged the bullet. Or, know that your decision to not accept that fate changed the result.
The main thing is you feel good about where you went instead of where you thought you would stay. If you were guilty, own it and do the same. If life were easy, well, we all know it’s not. Feeling good at the end of your day is the goal. Knowing you are headed in the direction you want to go is the plan. The rest will fall into place.
If you don’t try, you will never know
We made a lot of mistakes in our home remodel. Some of them were costly, but we pushed through and accepted the results. When I look at these particular places I know that it is more than ok because we tried, did our best, and did not give up. That is all you can do. If somebody else points out our mistakes, that is fine. I almost smile. It is hard to avoid an error no matter how hard you try. I would rather try and make the error than never try at all.
Now, we are getting ready to break out the Benjamin Moore Aura paint and paint the French doors and kitchen door. Finally! It is the best of the best of paint and somehow I’m ignoring the fact that my dog will be scratching the door to get in. Maybe when it’s painted he will change his behavior. I doubt it!
